Mosaics make a wonderful choice for wall or floor art that can be incorporated
with the surrounding architecture and also made waterproof for shower
or pool areas. The material can consist of a mixture of vitreous materials
like, venetian glass, stained glass, marble, jewels etc. The design and
placement is always the leading factor to fabrication. The pieces can
be close together or far apart depending on how much background matrix
of grout you are wanting to use. The material chosen is mounted on the
area elected with usually a waterproof adhesive and then grouted with
different colored grouts that are available. Opalescent glass is usually
a better choice among glasses as it is not transparent and your colors
can be seen deeper. The glass is chipped or cut with a tool to make the
shapes you need to fit within the perimeter of your design desired.
ATG offers mosaic designs of traditional and contemporary
effects to fit within the scope of work desired. Once again the client
has the opportunity to express their need and desire so our designers
can put down on paper a proof for them to see before fabrication.
Another style that is becoming popular is glass tiles that take the place
of ceramic tile work in kitchens, bathrooms, on walls etc...they also
are customized to the needs of the client.
One of the most successful and accepted techniques in the world of stained
glass is dalle de verre. Better known as faceted or slab glass which is
chipped to fit the design with a special hammer and then set into an epoxy
or other material. Its production is similar to normal stained glass resulting
in a mosaic-like approach of pure color effects that can be utilized in
window openings or entire walls. Dalle de verre can be charaterized by
its strong colors, design and effect in contemporary settings. Very durable
and stunning these windows can be made in a variety of forms and sizes.
