Abrasive glass etching is the process of abrading a glass surface in selected areas through a machine that impacts the glass with "sand" at a very high speed. The designed is controlled by the artist and different types of "resists". Etched glass has the appearance of a white surface in contrast with the unetched glass that appears clear and untouched.

There is a collaboration of techniques with etching that can cause a 3-D effect in which the glass is blasted in stages.

Tempered glass can only be surfaced etched and done so very carefully. Annealed glass you can carve alot deeper and expand into some wonderful effects. Most of the pictures here are done with tempered glass due to customer requests, building codes and their location. Another type of glass that can still stay within code but you can carve deep with is laminated.
All these techniques can produce beautiful art glass designs that may work wonderful for your elected space.
